The IMC 2011 – International Insurance Mediation Conference, co-organized by IUC and Media XPRIMM, took place on May 28–29, 2011, at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Hotel in Istanbul. The event brought together key players from across the insurance mediation landscape for an in-depth discussion on the future of mediation in the evolving European regulatory environment.

At the core of the conference was a forward-looking dialogue on the upcoming European legislative framework, particularly in light of the experiences and lessons gathered under the Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD) regime. Experts from across Europe and beyond shared their views on how the new provisions might reshape the mediation business and what the sector needs to do to stay ahead of the curve.

A major theme of the event was the impact of the global financial crisis on insurance mediation. The sessions offered a comprehensive review of how the crisis tested the resilience of intermediaries and what conclusions can be drawn about the adequacy of the existing legal and operational frameworks. Discussions highlighted both the vulnerabilities and strengths that surfaced during this turbulent period.

The conference also stood out as a powerful regional networking hub. It gathered international insurers, reinsurers, and brokers from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Russia, the CIS region, the Middle East, and Turkey, offering a rare opportunity for cross-border connection and knowledge exchange among professionals operating in diverse but interconnected markets.

By combining policy insights, regulatory foresight, and practical case studies, IIF 2011 laid the foundation for ongoing dialogue and collaboration in the mediation space. More than a decade later, its legacy remains relevant as insurance mediation continues to adapt to new rules, digital transformation, and shifting customer expectations.
